The embassy of the Union of Myanmar has reported that, since 1 May 2010, required visas can be acquired on arrival via the international airports of Rangoon and Mandalay. The forms required for this procedure are provided by the airline companies. In addition, the following documents are required: passport with a remaining validity period of at least six months, 2 current passport photos (4 x 6 cm), and proof of a return flight ticket. A tourist visa costs around US$30 and is valid for a maximum duration of stay of 28 days.

According to the official regulations, short-term visas are issued within 4 embassy working days and allow entry within 72 hours of the date of issue. The duration of stay is limited to 7 days.
Approval of a short-term visa lies solely within the power of the consulate and cannot be guaranteed. The consulate reserves the right to determine both the processing time and the period of validity issued.

In a follow-up to our news bulletin of 15 February 2010, the website of Germany’s Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) reports the following:
“On 15 February 2010, Libya reported that, until further notice, it would not be issuing visas to citizens of the Schengen area, including Germany. Even already issued visas were invalid for this group of people. Only people holding a valid right of unlimited residence would continue to be allowed entry. However, decisions made by the Libyan authorities may differ from this line.”

The embassy of the Republic of Chad has reported that tourists traveling individually to Chad are obliged to fill out an extra form and send this to the Ministry of Tourism Development in Chad. This additional entry registration is intended as a safety measure for travelers and must be carried out independently of the visa application. Members of an organized party of travelers are not affected by this entry registration obligation. We have an update regarding our news bulletin of 4 February 2010: If the traveler can present a confirmed invitation, a visa can also be issued at the Turkmenistan border posts which have an immigration department office. Along the border to Iran there is no such authority. In this case, travelers should turn to the Turkmenistan mission in Teheran to apply for their entry permit. According to unconfirmed reports, it is also possible to apply for transit visas there.

The consular mission of the republic of India in Berlin has confirmed that travelers must also anticipate application of the 2-month re-entry restriction even if their submitted tourist visa does not bear the corresponding re-entry restriction notice. The re-entry restriction notice has been entered in tourist visas since 7 December 2009. According to the Indian consulate in Berlin, the Indian authorities now also apply the 2-month re-entry restriction to visas issued before that date.

Entry restrictions
The airport management in Jeddah has reported that entry into the country via Jeddah airport is only possible to a limited extent during the pilgrimage season.
For example, travelers holding a business visa may only enter the country via Jeddah airport if they hold proof of not being Muslim.
We recommend that, until around the beginning of December, all travelers planning to enter the country via Jeddah contact their airline company before travelling in order to clarify entry restriction details.

There, under certain circumstances, an application in this category may be possible without an employment contract. Even if an approval number has already been issued, the following applies with immediate effect:
A letter attested by the competent chamber of industry and commerce (always as an original document and bearing a current date) from the German company sending out the employee, stating purpose and duration of the visit, traveler’s job designation, address of the company to be visited in Saudi Arabia, and confirming assumption of the travel expenses and costs for the stay.

- Photocopy of your passport.

- If you are between 16 and 60 years of age: An HIV test report (Aids test). This test must have been conducted by an institution recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Additional documents for the registration process might be required depending on the respective case. We urge you to immediately clarify the valid rules and regulations on your arrival.

Visa validity
The possibility of applying for a multiple-entry visa within three months is only possible for cruise ship travelers. To apply the applicant must submit a booking confirmation from the cruise organizer which shows that the itinerary makes multiple entries truly necessary. This means the itinerary must be clearly understandable.

The business visa conditions continue to apply for a “work visit”.

Supplementation of the Nigeria news message of 5 August 2009:
The new application requirement for Nigeria visas concerns every
first-time applicant. If proof that a Nigeria visa has already been
issued to the passport holder cannot be provided, the applicant must
visit the consulate in person. The consulate does not issue appointments
in this respect, however.
The consular-compliant preparation of application documents (online data
entry, etc.) can still be accomplished via CIBT Visum Centrale. However,
the applicant must then submit the documents in person. CIBT Visum
Centrale can only collect the visa’d passport with a written power of
attorney from the passport holder.

The consular mission of the People’s Republic of China in Hamburg has confirmed that flight passengers entering the country are guided through so-called heat scanners on arrival at the airport. People showing a heightened body temperature are medically examined. Entry may be refused on suspicion of influenza.
The consular mission of the People’s Republic of China was so far unable to confirm this procedure but recommends that all travelers who have stayed in a country with increased infection rates for 2 weeks previously should submit their China visa application no earlier than 1 to 2 weeks after leaving such a country.

Swine Flu – Visa Issuing Restrictions and Entry Restrictions
The consular mission in Frankfurt has confirmed that visa application screening and entry screening measures may still be adopted due to the swine flu pandemic. If entry and exit stamps stemming from the currently affected countries (Mexico, Canada, USA, Spain etc.) are found in the traveler’s passport, this may lead to visa rejection or denial of entry. The consulate recommends that a medical certificate be kept ready for presentation, confirming that the passport holder has no such symptoms.

The Russian consulate in Munich has confirmed the introduction of the new visa application form together with the following constraints:
- The visa application form must be filled out in typewritten form. Applications filled out in handwriting are still accepted on a transitional basis.
- The application must be fully completed. Missing or incorrect information cannot be added or corrected later.
- The application must be printed out without any changes in scale.
- The passport photo must be in colour and must meet the current biometric requirements.
- The applicant must put his original signature in the correspondingly provided frame of the visa application form. It must be identical to the signature in the passport.
- No dashes may be used in the visa application form to mean “not applicable”. In this case the field in question must be filled out with the following German words (meaning “not applicable”): “nicht zutreffend”.
Should any of these conditions not be met, the consulate will reject the application and reserves the right to retain already paid consular fees.

The Russian Consulate in Frankfurt currently processes visa applications on a regular basis (10 days) in exceptional cases. The determining factor for the processing time is the date of entry into the Russian Federation. Therefore, urgent visa applications will be processed with priority. At the moment, only an express handling shortly before departure is possible. A same-day-handling is currently not offered.
We kindly ask applicants for business visas whose applications can remain at the consulate for at least 10 days to send their application documents to our Berlin office. So the Frankfurt consulate can be unburdened a little. Please note that this is only possible for applicants of business visas. In Berlin the processing time in the consulate takes 10 days. Tourist and private applications are only handled in Berlin if the applicant resides in one of the following federal states: Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony-Anhalt.

Other services are currently not possible.

Applicants from Nordrhein-Westfalen, Rheinland-Pfalz and Saarland must send their supporting documents to Visum Centrale in Bonn.

In Berlin, visitor visas can only be applied for if the applicant holds a written proof that he is related to the person he/she plans to visit in China. This is irrespective of the fact that this person is a Chinese citizen. A proof might be for example a copy of the family's register (for spouses or children). If a written proof of this kind is missing, a visa will not be issued in Berlin.

As regards visa applications for travel groups, they will only be processed by the Munich consulate if the majority of the applicants live in Bavaria.
